I did the Black Mountain ride on June 14th - it was 35.9 miles and
about 4:30 hours of cycling - although my bike computer does not record under 3
mph and some of the ascent up Montebello Road was less than 3 mph.
I wandered through Los Altos Hills, finally reaching Foothill Expressway
just before 280 and then took it to the end in Stevens Creek Park. I
had a break in the park then ascended Montebello Road to the
Picchetti Winery. It took me 1 hour
and 20 minutes up Montebello Road from the Picchetti Winery to the fire road
gate that leads to Black Mountain at the top of Montebello Road. Its
then a rough track over Black Mountain to Page Mill, which I am glad to say
was warmer than when I descended it before. I also had gloves on this time,
which makes the hands more comfortable on the brakes.
